Anbarli Saddlery, which was a well-known past, was founded by Salih Anbarlilar, the father of Galip Anbarlilar. Salih Anbarlilar started his business in saddlery market in the year of 1920. The beginning of the profession of saddlery can very well go back to the times of Mehmet the Conqueror of Istanbul. For the first time this market was started in a bazaar which was only founded for saddlers in the district of "Sarachane". Today in Istanbul, this district is still called with the same name "Sarachane" (meaning saddlery workshop). Saddlers used to makes saddles, harnesses, bags, wallets, courier bags and things like these with a wooden tool called "clide", putting between two knees with awls and sewing needles. Salih Anbarlilar ran the business of saddlery until the year of 1930. From 1930, he started to make and sell wallets and bags with both hand sewing and machine sewing . In 1943, suitcases were added to the product range. Until 1951, the year Galip Anbarlilar started business, all shops had a sign "saddler" in the bazaar (Mercan Uzun Carsi). When there were no saddlers left in the bazaar, Galip Anbarlilar was the pioner to change the sign for his shop "saddlery" to "leather goods shop". And all the shop owners followed him and did the same in bazaar. The products seen in the entrance of the web site all have antique value and were made by Salih Anbarlilar, the father of Galip Anbarlilar. |
